Alastair was born in 1961 in Devon and grew up in Exmouth. He attended Exmouth School, and then Warwick University where he read Engineering Science, and graduated in 1983. His first job was a Contracts Engineer in London working in the electrical trace heating world. In 1984 he moved to Newton Abbot to work as a salesman for NCR Ltd and soon became a District Manager, and then Major Accounts Manager based in Watford. In 1990 he joined what became Pilkington Glazing as Sales & Marketing Director, and became Managing Director in 1993.
His hobbies include walking, classic cars, and motor sports. Alastair and his wife have lived in Pebworth since 1993. Their 3 children all went to the local play group then onto Pebworth First school. Nowadays, he is part owner of a business that manufactures fountain pens and writing equipment accessories. Most of the components are made in Birmingham. It gives him much satisfaction to be manufacturing products locally and exporting them all around the world - over 50% of production is exported. His wife Dawn is a Chartered Surveyor, and was a governor of Chipping Campden School and Pebworth First School for many years. Alastair’s experience in business life has helped him play an active part at Wychavon District Council, and Worcestershire County Council. He states that good business stems from giving good customer service and value for money, and always looking at how to improve things; much the same as most people expect from a council. |
